For nearly two decades, I have analyzed the education industry from every conceivable angle: from the classroom floor as a teacher, from the governance room as a public school board director, and from the global corporate scale as a Strategy Director at Pearson.
My training in public policy and data analysis at Carnegie Mellon University taught me to look past surface-level metrics and build what doesn't exist yet. What I’ve realized through looking under the hood of the institutional machine is alarming: the traditional, testing metrics we use to govern school curriculums and rank "the best" schools are entirely outdated for the world our children will actually inherit.
Traditional, homogenized "top-ranked" school bubbles excel at training children to be information-acquirers—a skill that generative AI is rapidly rendering obsolete. Today’s children don't just need to collect rules; they need to build traits like cognitive flexibility and unassailable real-world judgment on top of hard AI-era skills.
A Strategy Born from Experience
This isn’t just my professional thesis; it’s my family's lived reality. As a mother to a kindergardener and 5th grader (both HGT), I once followed the unexamined neighborhood script. We moved to a coveted Denver neighborhood for a traditional "10/10" school. But when the standard algorithm failed to support my child's actual development, we broke the mold. I pulled and crunched the data that actually mattered for our vision. We pivoted to a public dual-language program, choosing real-world optimization over lagging public rankings.
The results transformed my children's paths, and it solidified my mission.
I founded "Future Ready Families," a project of my business consultancy Pivot Strategy, LLC, to help forward-thinking parents bypass educational echo chambers and lazy scoring systems.
